Dancers

FAQ

Q:  Why should I learn to dance?

A:   Ballroom dancing has many benefits.

-Dancing is a beautiful and exciting part of many of the social events we will experience in our lives.   A good social dancer is very popular with the opposite sex and in great demand at social events.

-Dancing can be a great experience for a couple wishing to share a hobby together.

-Ballroom dancing is a great form of exercise.  The most effective form of exercise is one that doesn’t feel like exercise.   If its fun, its easier to stick to and it definitely beats hours spent walking on the treadmill.

-Dancing keeps the aging body as well as the young more flexible and improves posture and balance, which can dramatically reduce the chance of injuries in our golden years.  In addition to its physical benefits, learning to dance keeps the mind active and alert.

-Ballroom dancing is a great stress reliever.  It builds confidence and fosters a good self image.

Once you start dancing, you will realize more and more personal benefits.

Q:  What is the best way to learn?

A:  The directors and instructors at Downtown Dance Studio have many years of experience teaching people to dance.  In that time, we have developed a system of teaching that guarantees success.

The 3 Keys to Your Success:

1)      Private Lessons:  This is, by far, the most important part of your learning.  Private lessons are taken by an individual or couple. Your lessons are tailored to suit your individual learning styles and pace.

2)      Group Lessons:  These are taken in small groups by students who have a similar experience level.  Group lessons are designed to reinforce what you are learning in your private lessons.  Group lessons do not cover all the aspects of dance that you will be learning in your private lessons, but they are fun and give you a chance to dance with different partners.  Also, they can be an introduction to a new dance.

3)      Social Practice:  We provide opportunities for students to dance among kindred spirits.  Often referred to as the “practice party”, we have some fun while practicing what we have been learning on private lessons and group lessons.  This is another tool to help reinforce what you have been learning in your private lesson.  Dance parties are where you really start to “own” a  dance and be ready for any social dance occasion.

Q:  Do I need any prior dance experience?

A:  No.  You needn’t have any prior experience to begin your lessons.  If you have never danced a step in your life then you will have no bad habits to “unlearn”.

Q:  How long will it take?

A:   How much time you spend learning to dance is a personal decision, but since it is so much fun, you may find that it takes you away from the stress of day to day life and becomes your hobby.  In fact, most of our students begin with a desire to simply feel comfortable dancing in social situations, but find they meet that goal much sooner than they anticipate and continue to add to their success.

Q:  Do I need a partner?

A:  No, you do not need a partner to start dancing.  In a private lesson, you can dance with the instructor.  Many students find this easier since they don’t have to share their instructor’s attention.

Q:   Will I have fun?

A:  One of the most important benefits of learning to dance is that you will have lots of fun.  In our fast-paced stress-filled lives we want to take a moment to have some fun.
